Hello
If I write that this time on the blog I am posting a song in Spanish, you are bound to guess this song is Despacito.
If I write that this time on the blog I am posting a song in Spanish, you are bound to guess this song is Despacito.
Released in January 2017, Despacito became
the first song in Spanish to top the Bill Board Hot 100 since Macarena in 1996. With over 1.500.000.000 views on YouTube, Despacito can be heard everywhere, at any time, from New Zealand to UK.
This is a bilingual activity which implies a little bit of translation. It will allow the students to listen to the song in Spanish while they have to go through the lyrics translated into English at the same time and choose the right word.
If your students are Spanish speaking or familiar with Spanish, the task will be easy for them.
If your students are not familiar with Spanish, their listening process will be a bit harder and will probably take longer, but it won't be impossible: they could go through the Spanish song for the first time, then through the English version, and finally they will probably be able to listen to the song and carry out the task.
Another option is to present them the vocabulary involved in the activity in both languages beforehand.
Whichever option you choose, they are likely to enjoy the song.
This activity is intended for beginners or A1/A2 CEFR students.
I hope you enjoy it.
