1492: 10 SPANISH WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE (1)

The year 1492  meant not only the Discovery of the New World, new lands, new cultures and peoples, but also a turning point for the world languages: these New World languages have shaped the English language mainly through Spanish, the language of the first navigators and explorers.
October 12th celebrates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America: Columbus Day or Día de la Hispanidad, depending on the country.
On the eve of October 12th, I am posting this presentation focused on 10 Spanish words that stemming from native American languages have shaped the English language as well.

This learning resource is addressed to A1/A2 students.
As a suggested procedure, the students may look at the pictures, read the words on top,  and then circle the right word for each picture. Afterwards, they could read the definitions on the last slide, and try to match each definition with a picture.

Shortly I will be posting an activity addressed to B1/B2 students.
I hope you find this a helpful resource.
