FLAMENCO. REPOLLO: A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR

                                            FLAMENCO
REPOLLO:
A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR

A couple of months ago I was invited to spend a long weekend in Siles, a beautiful small town in the Sierra de Segura (Segura Mountain Range), in Jaén, Andalusia.
I got really impressed by the beauty of the place, colours of Nature, the breeze, and above all, the kindness and generosity of the people.
As if this were not enough, we had the privilege of admiring Flamenco shows. I got so impressed by the Flamenco dance and music that sharing it with others turned into a must.
So, here you have a presentation of Repollo: a young flamenco guitarist from the Sierra de Segura, Andalusia.

Just watch and listen:

TARANTAS

Focused on the presentation you can find the following items and activities:
1.  Flamenco words
2.  A pairing up words & images exercise
3.  Finding out info
4.  Comprehension questions.
5.  Filling the gaps text
6. The presentations text as a cloze test

PROCEDURE & STEPS TO FOLLOW.
1. Provide your students with the Flamenco words beforehand.
2. Once they get familiar with them, go to the  ´Pair up words & pictures´ slide.
3. Go through exercises 3 & 4.
4. Then, let your students read the presentation a couple of times, and ask them to fill in the gaps.
5. In the end, ask them to do exercise 6.

In a few days I will upload the key to all activities.

I hope you, your students, and also anyone interested, enjoy it.

Dear all:
Now that Christmas is approaching, perhaps something related to this festivity would be suitable to be worked in your lessons.
This is a text on Christmas dinner starters  followed by some comprehension questions.
Intended for A1/A2 students, it is quite an easy activity to be developed in class just a few days before Christmas holidays. I hope you find it useful.

SONG: "EX'S & OH'S" LISTENING EXERCISE

Get your students  enjoy your English lesson today: play Elle King´s "X’s & Oh’s".
Let them  listen to the song  and  follow the lyrics. Then the images will help them find out the missing words and by listening a second time  they will choose the right one.
Just at the end, after a few more times, they will be able to write the missing words in the last slide.
If your students are A2/B1 or over, this is the listening exercise for them.
By means of this teaching resource, your students will not only develop their listening skills, they will grasp new words and activate their passive vocabulary in context, as well. They will also be making a choice on the basis of their grammar knowledge when having to select one of the two options.

I do hope your students, and you, enjoy this song.

SONG: 'CALIFORNIA DREAMING' LISTENING EXERCISE

Hi everybody,
Now that the school year is almost ending if it is not already over, at least in some parts of the world, I would like to upload the song California Dreaming as summer starts approaching.
This song was released a long time ago, in 1966, just as face B of a single by The Mamas and The Papas.
It was Monday Monday, released in March 1966, the song which became the band's only number-one hit in the US, reaching number three in the UK, and first number-one on Spain's new radio programme Los 40 Principales.
Monday, Monday won many awards in the following years. However, it is California Dreaming, that face B song, the one we have been hearing non-stop throughout the years.
Quite an easy listening exercise for A1 & A2 students, follow the steps at the end of the song lyrics or go through the stanzas as you think your students may like.
Aspects of the language to be considered may be:
. PHONETICS: /liːvz]/versus /livz/ - /skai/ versus /ski/ -/seif/versus /seiv/ -  /əʊ/ versus /ɔː/, etc… and different meanings of words accordingly
. PRONUNCIATION: e.g.: ‘winter’s’ and other words in American, Australian or British English.
. LANGUAGE SYSTEM/GRAMMAR: conditional sentences, verbal tenses (present, past, present perfect), prepositions (on, in, into), nouns and adjectives.
The first link is the official video by The Mamas and the Papas and it is a shorter version than   Sia’s. The third link is just the shortened version for a Spanish magazine store summer advertisement.
At the end of the song there are some more versions: the one including the lyrics, so that the students can self-correct, and a light karaoke version, so that they can sing.
I hope you and your students like it.

SONG + LYRICS

karaoke

STEPS TO FOLLOW
1. Print the lyrics/project the lyrics on a screen.
2. Watch the video and listen to the song (official song video).
3. Read the lyrics before listening to the song for a second time.
4. Then, while listening choose the right word.
5. Listen to it again and check.
THEN,
6. Watch the video + lyrics and check the exercise again.
7. Finally, listen to the karaoke version, if possible, and sing.
Singing and learning the songs by heart will improve your students’ pronunciation, stress, rhythm & intonation, apart from other skills and aspects of the Language, such as vocabulary and language system.
Please, note that any link may stop working.
