These hard times of pandemic throughout the whole world, with all schools and learning centres locked-down, have produced a drastic change in education: all teachers have become online teachers whereas all learners have become distance-learning students. Therefore, online resources have probably become teaching means of the essence. The presentations in this blog can either be easily uploaded in e-platforms or the links can be easily shared as well.

HOMES WITH VINEYARDS is a comprehension test. It includes the following sections: comprehension questions, vocabulary, grammar, and, as a follow-up activity, a writing section.This activity is suitable for B1/B2 learners of English, that is to say, Intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced learners of English.

Throughout this world pandemic, we have been listening to the news far more often than usual. The word ´fake´ has been turning up not only on Spanish TV screens but also in all the social nets, from Twitter to Facebook without excluding messenger or Whatsapp. 
Perhaps we should have a look at the functions this English word has in the English Language and which ways it has adopted as a loan word in the Spanish Language.

The exercises included at the end of this post are suitable for post beginners, intermediate and post intermediate learners of English, that is to say, CEFR A2,B1 &B2.
In a few days' time, I will upload the key.

MARYAM MIRZAKHANI: TRIVIA GAME

Today's post is a follow-up activity on the previous one on Maryam Mirzakhani:http://maribelmiroenglish.blogspot.com/search?q=maryam+mirzakhani

This activity may be done in the classroom either as a reading comprehension, in which the learners involved, after reading it a couple of times, go through the multiple-choice questions and choose the right option according to the text. 

Another way could be a listening activity: the learners are in groups, and a student from each group reads out the first question. Each correct answer gives the group one point. And a third way could be a trivia game: either the teacher reads out the text and, then, the questions or the learners read the text and, then, the teacher asks the questions. 

That is to say, the presentation can be worked 

as a comprehension reading activity, a listening activity or

 a trivia game.

This activity is addressed to the learners of English wishing to learn about Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman ever to be awarded the Fields Medal, the Nobel Prize in Mathematics, and also to intermediate and advanced students of English. CEFR B1 and B2.

IWD 2020: MARYAM MIRZAKHANI

 

IWD 2020 : MARYAM MIRZAKHANI                                            

   The post I am uploading today is an homage to one of the most remarkable women of our century. I happened to hear about Maryam Mirzakhany a couple of years ago, while on a family holiday on the island of Kish, in southern Iran. 

Another Iranian woman, a researcher and a scientist I had just met, talked to me about her, and her description of Mirzakhani was so vivid I decided Mirzahani deserved a post of her own. Thank you, dear Neda.
