SONG: 'ALL OF ME' LISTENING EXERCISE

Dear friends, colleagues, and followers,

As February 14th was approaching I thought there is no better way to celebrate Love than a love song.
Among the many beautiful love songs written, there is one whose lyrics are different because not only does the singer love her, but he also loves her  in such a special way as to sing these words:

all of me loves all of you, and  all in me loves all in you

Information related to countries, cultures and ways of celebrating St Valentine's Day will be found in the following sites:

1. Background, Origins and Symbols @https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/common/valentine-day

2. St Valentine’s Traditions Worldwide @http://www.huffingtonpost.com/viator/10-valentines-day-traditi_b_9190888.html

3. St Valentine Around the World @http://www.novareinna.com/festive/valworld.html

If your students are beginners or CEFR A1, they will probably be able to go through numbers 1, 3 & 4.
If your students are CEFR A2/B1 all activities will be suitable for them.
CEFR B2 students will be delighted to go through this song  even if it means no challenge for them.
That the learning process is fostered by means of enjoyable activities is no new news. The more a student enjoys an activity, the more he/she learns. If, on top of that, they are based on beautiful songs, the learning process will be fostered without their realizing.

I do hope all of you enjoy this song.

FLAMENCO. REPOLLO: A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR. KEY

KEY

FLAMENCO
REPOLLO
A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR

@http://maribelmiroenglish.blogspot.com.es/2017/01/flamenco-repollo-young-flamenco-star.htmlCLOZE TEST+ KEY

Miguel García, AKA Repollo, lives in Villacarrillo, a small village in Jaén, Andalusia.
Miguel’s grandfather nicknamed him *Repollo because   of the early age, his plumpness, and   his small size when he got hold of a guitar for the first time:
One day, while walking across the village Fair his parents realized Miguel was carrying a guitar.
His father said, ‘give that guitar back’. Repollo just uttered these words: ‘please, dad, pay for it. I’m gonna be a guitarist’.
Repollo was just 4 years old.
-      Repollo, born into a gypsy family of 6 siblings, and an extended family of several dozens of relatives, is the only one to play the guitar.  Although his father says that the great guitar player Paco de Lucía was a distant relative, and La Chispa –Camarón’s wife- is among his family relatives, Miguel has  never had any kind of contact with them.

At 10 he played the guitar for the first time.
At 13 he started guitar studies at the Conservatorio in Linares, Jaén.
Miguel already performs in flamenco shows, not only to take part in them among the palmeros, cantaores, and bailaores, but also as a soloist, whose art makes us xxx think we are admiring such a talented guitar player, he  shows promise and can already be considered a young  flamenco star.

1. PAIR UP WORDS AND IMAGES.

Row 1 from left to right:

Image 3: carnations
Image 4: palmas

Image 5: bailaora

Row 2, from left to right
Image 6: singer
Image 7: cabbage
Image 8: bailaora
Image 9: cajón
Image 10: bailaor

2. FIND IN THESE IMAGES…

1. There is a bailaora in both pictures; there is a palmero in both pictures, and also there is a cantaor in both of them, too.
The bailaora is dancing flamenco. She is wearing a black long dress, black shoes and a Spanish shawl, traditionally called Manila shawl. A yellow shall on the left image, a red one in the right image. She is also wearing a red flower on her hair.
The palmero is clapping his hands and singing. He is wearing a black shirt and black trousers.
They are playing the guitar and the cajón.

3. FIND OUT…

1. Jaén is in Andalusia, the southern region in Spain.
2. Repollo in English: cabbage
3. Paco de Lucía was probably the best guitar player in the history of Flamenco. He managed to make Flamenco international.
4. Cantante: singer; cantaor: a male flamenco singer.
5. Bailaor: male flamenco dancer; bailarín: a male dancer
6.Bailaora: female flamenco dancer; bailarina: female dancer.

4. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

    1. Because when Miguel was a child he was a bit fat and          his grand father used to call him Repollo
    2. Because at the age of four, he already knew he wanted      to play the guitar
    3. Yes, some relatives of his play the guitar.
    4. Yes, he does, among other flamenco singers and                  dancers and also on his own.
    5. Because Repollo is a talented guitar player.
He started    to play the guitar at the age of 10

       5. FILL IN THE GAPS.

Miguel Garcia, AKA Repollo, is a flamenco guitarist who studies in La Carolina, but lives in Villacarrillo.
Miguel has many brothers and sisters, and a lot of relatives.
He was very young when he played the guitar for the fist time. At the age of four he said he wanted to play the guitar. Miguel plays the guitar in shows with some other artists, but also on his own.
Miguel is already considered a young flamenco star.

FLAMENCO. REPOLLO: A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR

                                            FLAMENCO
REPOLLO:
A YOUNG FLAMENCO STAR

A couple of months ago I was invited to spend a long weekend in Siles, a beautiful small town in the Sierra de Segura (Segura Mountain Range), in Jaén, Andalusia.
I got really impressed by the beauty of the place, colours of Nature, the breeze, and above all, the kindness and generosity of the people.
As if this were not enough, we had the privilege of admiring Flamenco shows. I got so impressed by the Flamenco dance and music that sharing it with others turned into a must.
So, here you have a presentation of Repollo: a young flamenco guitarist from the Sierra de Segura, Andalusia.

Just watch and listen:

TARANTAS

Focused on the presentation you can find the following items and activities:
1.  Flamenco words
2.  A pairing up words & images exercise
3.  Finding out info
4.  Comprehension questions.
5.  Filling the gaps text
6. The presentations text as a cloze test

PROCEDURE & STEPS TO FOLLOW.
1. Provide your students with the Flamenco words beforehand.
2. Once they get familiar with them, go to the  ´Pair up words & pictures´ slide.
3. Go through exercises 3 & 4.
4. Then, let your students read the presentation a couple of times, and ask them to fill in the gaps.
5. In the end, ask them to do exercise 6.

In a few days I will upload the key to all activities.

I hope you, your students, and also anyone interested, enjoy it.

SONG: "EX'S & OH'S" LISTENING EXERCISE

Get your students  enjoy your English lesson today: play Elle King´s "X’s & Oh’s".
Let them  listen to the song  and  follow the lyrics. Then the images will help them find out the missing words and by listening a second time  they will choose the right one.
Just at the end, after a few more times, they will be able to write the missing words in the last slide.
If your students are A2/B1 or over, this is the listening exercise for them.
By means of this teaching resource, your students will not only develop their listening skills, they will grasp new words and activate their passive vocabulary in context, as well. They will also be making a choice on the basis of their grammar knowledge when having to select one of the two options.

I do hope your students, and you, enjoy this song.
