ST VALENTINE 2021

ST VALENTINE 2021

On this year’s St Valentine Day my blog post focuses on the activities uploaded in past years, such as 2017 &  2019.

These posts include links on this festivity origin and traditions, and also activities focused on two love songs lyrics:

Ed Sheeran’s Perfect and John Legend’s All of me.

I hope your students enjoy them.

TRANSLATION: OFFICE

Office

This blog post includes exercises suitable for Intermediate learners of English & Spanish, that is to say, CEFR B1 & B2.

The first exercise is focused on an English activity, the second one is intended for bilingual learners or students of both languages.

The past months' political events in the USA provided me with the chance of watching and listening to the news on Spanish TV channels. I couldn't help realizing the way the phrases including the word ´office´ were being translated into Spanish.

News in Spanish stating that:

1. ¨Kamala está en la oficina por primera vez¨ (Kamala is in office for the first time), or that

2. ¨Joe Biden ha jurado cargo en la oficina¨ (Joe Biden has taken his oath of office¨ or that

3¨ Trump see marcha de la Casa Blanca, finalizando cuatro años en la oficina¨ (Trump leaves the White House ending four years in office)

made me take the decision to write this blog post.

I hope you find it interesting.

As we are approaching January 26th,  I would like to recall Australia is getting ready to celebrate her most important celebration: Australia's Day.
A public holiday, it is Australia's National Day.
Australia's Day consists of formal ceremonies along with local events, and when it falls on a Sunday or a Saturday, then it is moved to the following Monday.
Find  a brief history on the origin of this celebration, and therefore of Australia @

This blog post is addressed to a wide range of learners: from beginners to post-beginners to intermediate students.

I hope you find it interesting and useful.
Your feedback is always appreciated.

10 JAPANESE WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Dear all,
You might like to focus your students' activities on a calendar date or event, such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday or perhaps on Christmas.
If this is the case, just go to

or
to

However, if you would like to work on vocabulary and cultural contents, this is the post for youThese 10 words, as is the case with all loanwords, were borrowed from the Japanese Language, but they were never returned. In fact, when people use them they are not aware the words are Japanese: they have been assimilated by the English Language.

There are three exercises. The first one, suitable for A1/A2 CEFR learners of English, that is to say, beginners and post beginners. The second exercise is suitable for A2/B1 learners - post beginners & intermediate students-, whereas the third one is suitable for B1/B2 students, that is to say, intermediate and advanced learners of English.

I hope you find it useful.

HOUSES WITH VINEYARDS. Comprehension Test

France. Chinon. April 2017.

Dear all,

These hard times of pandemic throughout the whole world, with all schools and learning centres locked-down, have produced a drastic change in education: all teachers have become online teachers whereas all learners have become distance-learning students. Therefore, online resources have probably become teaching means of the essence. The presentations in this blog can either be easily uploaded in e-platforms or the links can be easily shared as well.

HOMES WITH VINEYARDS is a comprehension test. It includes the following sections: comprehension questions, vocabulary, grammar, and, as a follow-up activity, a writing section. This activity is suitable for B1/B2 learners of English, that is to say, Intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced learners of English.

 Here is the key: https://maribelmiroenglish.blogspot.com/2020/06/houses-with-vineyards-key.html

I do hope you are all fine. Please, take care, stay safe.
